FRONT AND CENTER STAGE

HOME .

It's not easy for a police officer to be involved in nontraditional police programs, especially those that involve public relations, communicating with children, elderly people and the disabled, for example.

Cops have, after all, a "tough guy" image to maintain.

Sometimes the officer who is the first to go into a classroom or address a Rotary club or senior citizens group may have to endure quite a ribbing from his or her colleagues.

That officer has another kind of courage.

To protect and to serve.
But it really takes nerve
To do it while dressed as McGruff.
